Learn About Islam and Muslim Life Today

Our first task is simply getting our facts straight. We've sifted through books, videos and groups to search out resources that are accurate, respectful and reasonably easy to understand. We've sorted them by topic and degree of complexity.

Twelve Talking Points

Did you know Muslims believe in Jesus' miracles? Or that only 20% of Muslims are Arabic?
These twelve quick talking points may surprise you, and if you take ten minutes to read them you'll probably know more about Islam than all of your friends....put together.

Language and Etiquette

So you'd like to reach out - but what do you say and how do you say it? Language and customs matter, and we don't want to accidentally offend or miscommunicate.  Click here for guidelines that will help you and others be comfortable in conversation or at an interreligious event..

Invite a Speaker

Many cities have organizations to help educate the community about Islam. If there is a mosque or Islamic Center in your area, ask them for a recommendation.  In Minnesota, the Islamic Resource Group has speakers who present on a variety of topics. They accept but do not require a stipend. Or contact us.

Islam 101 (and 201, and...)

The life of Muhammad, the basic teachings of Islam, the tough topics of women, war and violence - how do we find reliable information? We've compiled a list of books and videos you can trust to be balanced and accurate.   more.

What Do Scripture and the Traditions Say About Interfaith Relations and Peace?

It's true that Christians and Muslims battled during the Crusades and elsewhere in history. It is also true that the Scripture and our teaching traditions have explicitly and repeatedly called for respect, reconciliation and peace. Click here for more.

Skills for Difficult Conversations

Sometimes it's not a matter of what we say so much as how we say it. Some of the most difficult conversations may be with other Christians rather than with Muslims. We've gathered some wisdom from the nonviolent tradition. This is an area where we especially welcome recommendations from you.  Click here for more info.
